Boston felt much more alive and fast-paced than some of the smaller stops on the trip, but it still managed to keep a lot of character. The city has that mix of old American history and modern business culture, where you can walk past centuries-old brick buildings and then straight into glass office towers or packed sports bars. It’s an easy city to explore on foot, especially around places like the waterfront and Back Bay, and there’s no shortage of good food—everything from proper Italian spots in the North End to late-night burger places and cafés that seem permanently full of students and remote workers. The people were generally friendly, though conversations tend to move quickly, and the city has an energy that makes it feel busy even late into the evening.
