Taipei Zoo absolutely smashed expectations—hands down one of the best-value experiences in the city. For just over £1.30, you get access to an enormous, well-kept zoo that feels more like a sprawling nature park than a standard animal attraction. It’s nestled right at the foot of the mountains in the south of the city, giving it a scenic backdrop and a bit of a cooler breeze, even on a hot day. The grounds are immaculate, with wide shaded walkways, thoughtfully spaced enclosures, and plenty of spots to take a breather. What really stood out was how calm and unrushed it all felt—no long queues, no overcrowding, just space to wander and actually enjoy the experience.
The range of animals is impressive too. From the famous pandas and native Formosan black bears to massive tropical aviaries and a seriously cool reptile house, the place covers a lot of ground—literally and figuratively. The enclosures seem well designed with the animals’ needs in mind, and there’s a real sense of care in the way everything’s maintained. Even the small food and coffee stands dotted around the park are reasonably priced, making it easy to spend a good half day here without breaking the bank. Whether you’re into wildlife or just want a relaxed change of pace from the city, Taipei Zoo is a solid pick—affordable, peaceful, and surprisingly memorable.
