Visiting Johannesburg was one of the more eye-opening and layered travel experiences I’ve had. It’s a city that carries a lot of history, but also a real sense of momentum and creative energy. The city isn’t always easy to navigate, but that makes the discoveries feel even more rewarding. Food-wise, Joburg is diverse and exciting, with everything from street-side grills to high-end spots serving modern takes on traditional South African dishes. It’s not a city that fits neatly into a box—it’s gritty, welcoming, complex, and full of contrasts—but that’s exactly what makes it worth the trip.
