I had the chance to visit Sherbrooke, in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, and it turned out to be one of those places that quietly leaves a lasting impression. The city has a relaxed, creative energy, especially downtown where colourful murals cover the sides of buildings and little cafés, bookshops, and independent stores add to the charm. It’s not flashy or overly touristy—just full of character and small discoveries that make you slow down and appreciate the atmosphere.
One of the highlights for me was definitely the food. From early morning coffee and buttery pastries at local bakeries to hearty bistro meals and inventive dishes made with regional ingredients, every meal felt thoughtful and satisfying. The local beer scene was also a pleasant surprise, with microbreweries like Siboire serving up great drinks in relaxed, friendly settings.
Sherbrooke might not be the most obvious destination, but that’s part of what makes it so enjoyable. It’s a city that doesn’t try too hard, and in doing so, offers a genuine and memorable experience that’s well worth the visit.
